Live n Loaded

The show which features Singapore rock'n'roll debuts tomorrow night Tuesday 29 January at 8.30pm on Channel 5. Allura will be up on the 4th episode on Tuesday 17 February.

Tomorrow will see Electrico, The Great Spy Experiment and quite a few more acts performing. Seabed Sound which Robin sessions in will be performing as well.

From what I understand, the band goes on live at 8.50pm. Good luck, Robbo!

Antony & The Johnsons -

One of the most amazing singers ever. This is from his latest album The Crying Light. I think I'm going to order the album online soon.

Hamlet 2 trailer

He was killed in Tropic Thunder so he's back doing theatre... The red band trailer is here.

NBS Nightly News with Ted Philips, March 11th 1970

After watching this, I seriously don't think Zach Synder will screw up Watchmen. The details involved to replicate a news report from the 70's are indeed amazing.

Dr. Chee Soon Juan's message to President Obama

I've always respected the man, despite not agreeing with many of his convictions. He's an extremely articulate man with very valid points. What I have never agreed with him is his tactics to bring about attention to his cause. His actions, condemned by mainstream Singaporeans, have caused much harm to the image of local opposition parties which are already undermined to begin with.

You can click on the player to see the comments on the video. It's quite disparging to see the negative comments posted, once again confirming most Singaporeans are sheep which never saw the point and morons who don't really think of themselves that way. At least, I do!

Huggies Baby contest

As it's with all crazy and proud moms, Ann entered her son Drayden in a Huggies baby contest. I don't know what the prizes are but they ain't beer, fer sure! Vote for him here and help his Mummy win some (presumably) diapers! If you need some convincing, check out this video of the rugrat sitting on his dad Noel's face. Good job, young man!

The Birthday Song

Apparently, this is a gift from Eevon and the Kaya Koks to Chingz for her birthday this year.

I understand the simple pleasures in life and the amount of fun you can have using a digicam and some people singing.

Coldplay - Life In Technicolor

Video is pretty hilarious.

Good luck, sir!

Tuesday 20 January

Tuesday 20 January 2009 is a pretty exciting date in most Americans' books. It's the first time in history that they are giving the world's shittiest job to a black man, no less. But people are pretty excited about it. And why not? It's not them who will need to bail water out of a sinking ship.

Tuesday 20 January 2009 is also pretty cool as the new J.J. Abrams series 'Fringe' returns to air. Lead actress Anna Torv is quite cute in a gawky way.

Willy, Woei Yuan, Robin, YY and Bryan make a shoegazing album...

Yes. Last night, Weiyuan, Robin and I were out at Al-azhar, Bukit Timah having dinner. As usual, we stuffed our face with way too much food. So what's a bunch of fat fucks going to do after a heavy meal?

Go to jam to work it off, of course!

It's been a while since I've stepped into any rehearsal studios. So it was pretty fun. It was as if we were still back in school, skipping classes to go jamming. Brings a tear to my eyes every time I think about it. In any case, the three of us went in and booked an hour for fun. We managed to do a spoof homage to shoegazing rock. It was so funny that we decided that we will go find a recording studio to record 4 songs live. There will not be any prior rehearsals or songwriting sessions before entering the studios. Like what my Mat Rawker neighbour calls it, "just whack only..."

So if you have any good studios to recommend for live recording, let me know.

Oh yeah, we are calling ourselves Galactica since 80% of the band are huge BattleStar Galactica fans. And we have the song titles down: 'No Frakkin' Way, You Are A Cylon Too?!', 'OhMyGods!WhatTheFrak?BarBeeQue!', 'When I Have Sex, My Spine Doesn't Glow Red... Unfortunately' and 'Gaius Is Crying... Again'. And guess who's drumming? That's right. Me, bitches!

So... yeah...

Suede & Neil Tennant

This was shot back in 1996 at the peak of both acts' fame and Suede's 2nd guitarist Richard Oakes still had a neck. Pet Shop Boys's Neil Tennant joins the band on a duet of Suede's 'Saturday Night' and a reworked version of Pet Shop Boys's classic 'Rent'. The set finishes with the amazing b-side 'Europe Is Our Playground' and their hit 'The Beautiful Ones'.

Thanks to Robin for sending the video.

Duffy - Ready For The Floor (live)

Duffy covers Hot Chip. Pretty cool cover.

The Informers trailer

Based on a Bret Easton Ellis novel. He wrote American Psycho and Rules Of Attraction (which was pretty good). The adaptation stars Mickey Rourke, Kim Basinger, Winona Ryder and Billy Bob Thornton. Ironically, the story is set in the early 80's as well, seeing all these 80's movie stars back in the same flick. Not that impressed.

The trailer is NSFW. And you ask why?

Cuz it features a topless Amber Heard in many scenes. Enjoy.

Divine intervention

Apparently, that's a real photo taken in the shadow of Saturn by the robotic Cassini spacecraft now orbiting the planet of the eclipsed sun. Just look at that. It's amazingly beautiful. Most fundamental Christians would use that to sell their cause: "Only God can create something that beautiful."

Yeah, I feel that way everytime I look at Anne Hathaway too.

I love reading about all these planetary stuff even though I don't understand half the written stuff. I remember when I was a wee lad studying for my O Levels, I came upon a book by Stephen Hawking 'A Brief History Of Time'. It took me 6 months to read the 200-odd pages novel which I could barely comprehend. However, I discovered how black holes were formed and such. So that rocks.

Josh Groban

Got the video of the guy singing a medley of TV theme songs off Robin.

The fucker rocks. For a pop star, he has a sense of humour and is willing to take a piss at himself. He appeared on an episode of 'Nevermind The Bollocks' where host Simon Amstell threw his CD out and got him to say, "Don't buy my CD for your mums this Christmas; buy something else". He's pretty game for a lotta stuff.

Little Boots - Meddle (live)

BBC News named her the top New Act to look out for in 2009.

Singer Little Boots has come top of the BBC Sound of 2009 list of the brightest new music stars, playing a space disco sound influenced by Kylie Minogue, David Bowie and Gary Numan.

She's pretty cute and uses a Yamaha Tenori-on. So that rocks.

Obama's work schedule on Wed 21 January

Superheroes

Found this on Adlin's spare blog. Yes, other blog. I'm sure he has a sex blog hidden somewhere but he's not sharing. Bastard.

Both Rolling Stone and the Times Online have written about the US's superhero phenomenon. Labeled by some as a post-9/11 response and apparently spurred by Obama's call for "active citizenry," everyday people are dressing up in spandex to patrol the streets in a manner reminiscent of The Watchmen.

There's a World Superhero Registry, fer fuck's sake! Check this out!!! I highly doubt that most of those real-life female superheroes will look like this:

or this:

Check out some of the homemade costumes and their MySpace pages (all of them have that. How sweet.). Halloween starts early this year.

Vote! Vote! Vote!

Alaling And The Kaya Koks got themselves nominated in JUNK's Lofideo competition here. Good luck, Chingz! I voted twice!

Here's the entry with their foray into domestic chores:

The Cardigans vs. Black Sabbath

When I was playing around with a recorded bass track, I found a compressor with a preset called "cute Swedish girl on vocals". Nice.

Which reminded me that Kinho who tracked the said bassline mentioned that he didn't know that The Cardigans (which has a very "cute Swedish girl on vocals") covered Black Sabbath. Three times, dude, and usually in their most current musical style. Enjoy.

The Cardigans - Changes (live)

The Cardigans - Iron Man

The Cardigans - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

Take That - Smells Like Teen Spirit (live)

Got it from Robin. He says:

"make sure max sees this."

Okay, dude. There's a video of Brazilian metal act Sepultura doing 'The Girl From Ipanema' which segues to their own tune 'We´ve Lost You'. Going back to their Roots, Bloody Roots indeed.

"There must be some way out of here..."

It starts this frakkin' Friday again!

If you have no frakkin' clue what is going on, catch the frak up here. The recap's really funny.

Okay, so we lost...

Fuck, so we lost the inaugural Junksounds award of 'Best Electronic/ Fusion Act' to Manila's Drip, a trip-hop outfit. They are pretty good. The Pinoys swept most of the categories. At least, flica came in 3rd.

Mazzy Star - Fade Into You (live)

I've not really heard their stuff before but this sounds pretty good. And Hope Sandoval kinda reminds me of Lunarin's Linda's cooing style of singing. Maybe it's just me.

Max & Robin - Enter Sandman

We did this video after the New Year Eve BBQ at Max's place. I think it's gonna be a tradition when all of us (more so, Max and Robin) get together for a big-ass cookout, they have to perform a cover. We tried to keep to the whole 'Straight Men Who Love Music By Gay Men' theme like the first which they did George Michael's 'Faith'. But the fucker couldn't remember the lyrics to Pet Shop Boys' 'West End Girls'...

We did another tune 'She's A Warman (Your Ass Will Never Be Mine...)'. The title is damn 80's, especially with the parenthesis. It's either about falling in love with a lesbian or going out on a date with one. It's damn emo.

The Storm Warriors teaser trailer

The sequel to Hong Kong's The Storm Riders 10 years ago. Check out the Wiki page. Additional footage here.

Donald LaFontaine

Donald LaFontaine
was an American voiceover artist famous for recording more than 5,000 film trailers and hundreds of thousands of television advertisements, network promotions, and video game trailers. He just passed away last year.

Check out some spoofs and tributes to his work.

Mexican stand-up comedian Pablo Francisco doing Donald LaFontaine.

Of course, a tribute/ parody in the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy trailer.

Hanging with Max...

After hanging out with Max for the past few days, I've come to appreciate the new Take That (which Billy always had a man-crush on). Yes, the reformed boyband. They are doing more adult contemporary pop these days. And really, the singles are really good.

Take That - Greatest Day (live)

We have come to a conclusion. If I were ever to plan a wedding for a friend, this is the top choice for the bridal walk-in song at the banquet. Good cheese like this is hard to come by.

Take That - Patience (live)

This is pretty good too.

Take That - Rule The World (live)

I love this song! It's really great. Taken from the OST of Stardust which is a really delightful film.

And of course, we have to top it all up with this song: Culture Club's 'Love Is Love'.
